6 philosophical lessons from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

I watched the movie with my family over the weekend, and found the movie very fascinating. I found the creation of the Quantum realm and the multiverse within this realm thrilling. So well done by Marvel (like every time). However, the most striking thing about the movie were the hidden philosophical/life lessons. Listing 6 of them below:

  1. The importance of time. Time is the most valuable asset we have, because once it is gone, we cannot get it back. In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we see how time can be manipulated in the Quantum Realm (reminded me of interstellar). This raises some interesting philosophical questions about the nature of time and its relationship to free will. For example, if we could travel back in time and change the past, would we be able to change our future? Or would we simply create a new timeline? These are questions that have been pondered by philosophers for centuries, and been part of many conversations over coffee. The movie represents this dilemma very well.
  2. The value of second chances. Everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn’t mean that we are defined by them. In the movie we see how Scott Lang is given a second chance to redeem himself after being imprisoned for his past crimes. This is a powerful message that we should all take to heart (especially for these kids). No matter what we have done, we can always change our future if we are willing to work for it.
  3. The power of relationships. Relationships / friendships are one of the most important things in life. They are the people who love and support us unconditionally, no matter what. The movie explores Scott Lang’s relationship with his daughter Cassie,  who is one of the driving forces in his life. She is his inspiration and his motivation, and she helps him to become a better person. This is a reminder that relationships are the most important thing in the world, and that we should never take them for granted.
  4. The importance of self-growth. We are all constantly growing and evolving as people. We should never stop learning and trying to improve ourselves. In the movie, we see how Scott Lang is constantly trying to better himself. He is not content to stay the same person, and he is always looking for ways to grow and learn. This is a valuable lesson that we can all learn from.
  5. The power of hope. Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. This is a message that is central to the film, which shows us how all leading characters never give up hope, even when things seem hopeless. This is a powerful message that we can all take to heart, and teach our kids to keep going.
  6. The importance of living in the present moment. It is easy to get caught up in the past or the future, but it is important to remember to live in the present moment. This is a message that is echoed throughout the film showing us how Scott Lang learns to appreciate the present moment, even when he is faced with challenges. This is a valuable lesson that we can all learn from.

These are just a few of the philosophical lessons that we can learn from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film is a thought-provoking and entertaining journey that will leave you with a lot to think about, and a lot to teach your kids. I often look forward to these hidden meanings in superhero films rather than just the surface action sequences.

PS: While Paul Rudd is a wonderful superhero, he would always be the rom-com sweetheart for me 🙂
