The Smart Artist is an incredible book! It is well thought, intelligently researched, and brilliantly articulated book for artists to support their creative practice.

The book begins with helping a creative individual choose the right path, giving them guidance on what is available and how one could decide to get a formal creative education. The best part of the book begins from Chapter 2 onwards, and this book comes alive and becomes relevant not just to aspiring artists but for practicing artists as well.

I have studied Art, but in Art colleges they teach you how to be an artist but miserably fail at teaching you how manage or sell your art. Thus, the artists who come out of Art schools are often disoriented and lost. Admittedly, if I had this treasure trove of knowledge when I was studying art, my career would have looked very different. This book contains everything that an artist learns through trial and error, accessible through the collective knowledge of the writers. I learnt all of this through 20 years of practicing art, and there is so much more that I learnt while I read the book.

The book solicitously captures the journey of the artist from aspiration to direction to nudging their thinking towards lucrative resources. The book is highly recommended if you are an aspiring artist, emerging artist and just establishing yourself in the market. I am taking the liberty of saying; if you have completed your Art education, treat this book as a Bible to begin your creative practice and the jump from student to professional.

I must commend Anubha Gupta and Amisha Chowbey from ArtBuzz, for making this available for artists. Kudos!
