5 Awesome Things that Happened to me in 2020

My team had a small virtual get-together on the 31st of December. The topic of the evening was to discuss 5 awesome things that happened to us in 2020. As we all know, 2020 has been challenging for all of us. It completely changed our lives as we knew before the pandemic hit us. But despite that, for that evening, we wanted to count our blessings. That meant we identify and talk about the good things that happened to us in a year we would be happy to write off otherwise.

Although that evening, I counted more than 5 awesome things that happened to me, I have chosen the 5 most compelling ones for this blog piece to share with you all.

I became a published author – Writing.

The year 2020 would always hold that special place in my heart. My first fiction work came out in 2020. I touched my book’s printed copy for the first time at The Women Writer’s fest on 29th February 2020. I must admit all my grand plans for the book launch were rendered invalid given the lockdown. The story from there changed dramatically, with the country in full lockdown, the printing of copies, shipment to Amazon warehouses, delivery to buyers, all got adversely affected. The book picked up in the second half of the year, and as I am told, has sold out the first edition.

I love what I do – IKS Health.

I joined my current employment in Nov 2019. It is only at the beginning of 2020 I got in the groove of things, and it has been one incredible ride. We made elaborate plans for the next fiscal in early 2020 to take the Communications strategy ahead, but the pandemic gave us a rude shock. It pushed us into crisis management mode. And we managed that wonderfully. I am ever grateful to work with a team ready to take on any challenges and deliver the seemingly impossible with a big smile on their faces.

Studying further – IIM-Ahmedabad.

When life happens to you, you sometimes tend to leave things that are important and aspirational behind. I had pushed my studies on the back burner for a long, long time. Having signed up for courses and not being able to complete them bothered me. In 2020 I applied for the SMP course at IIMA. The application process itself calls for an exciting story, but I got accepted, to put it simply. Just before the world hit the pause button, we had the first campus run in February. It was fantastical, to say the least. We moved to virtual mode the moment the lockdown was announced. I am since then studying my butt off but loving every minute of it.

Three International Exhibitions –  Art.

Despite the pandemic, I managed to get through three international shows in 2020. The first one in February 2020 in a country that was the worst-hit at the outset of the pandemic, my heart still goes out to them, Milan, Italy. The second, in June-August 2020, was at The Netherlands with Gallerie Waarkunst. The third in October at The World Art Dubai.
Given my day job and the pandemic, I could not travel for any of these shows last year. But my works traveled, which is one of the biggest gratifications for an artist.

The 40 over 40 list – Recognition.

We would all like to believe that we do what we do, for we love to do what we do. Nothing more. But recognition for precisely that is always gratifying. Being recognized in 2020 for this list was one of the most special things that I would cherish. To be amongst some women that I look up to and would love to know better was the cherry on the cake. Genuinely grateful to She The People for this.

These are just a few of the awesome things, and I am immensely grateful for each one of them. There are many more where 2020 impacted me personally and worked as a change catalyst in my life. That perhaps, I would reserve for another time.

You could identify the 5 awesome things that happened to you in 2020. It would make you look at the brighter side of things, despite a tragic year.

About the author:

I authored my debut novel 'Of Unspoken Words and Half Said Truths' in early 2020. The book sold out the first edition in the first few months of release, woot woot! I maintain this blog to express my thoughts on an array of topics from books, art, movies, shows, corporate gyan, lifestyle, relationships, and much more.
